On the occasion of the visit of the President of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) Park Hye Geun- to Vietnam, the two countries signed an agreement to establish the Institute of Science and Technology of Vietnam – South Korea, sponsored by the Institute grant to help Vietnam train highly qualified human resources and strengthening research in the field of science and technology to meet the needs of industrialization and modernization.
According to the Korea International Cooperation (KOICA), Korean experts have completed the feasibility study of the project established V – KIST the model of the leading institutes of Korea (KIST). The two countries will discuss the content necessary for stakeholders to determine the scope of the project carried out in 2014.
Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan said Vietnam KIST not choose another organization for four reasons:
First, KIST is TOP10 leading research organization in the world. Many famous Nobel laureate and winner of science and technology frequently visited and lectured at KIST it.
Second, the Korean and Vietnam have many similarities. KIST Korea built more than 10 years after the Korean War, when this poor country and faced many difficulties.
Third, the model and the mechanism of action of KIST the Western style.
Fourth, the Korean government is supporting special projects and Korea may grant ODA for Vietnam.
KIST is the cradle of science and technology of Korea. Institute specializes in survey research as required, most of the research projects to be applied in the leading industrial conglomerate in Korea. According to statistics, the study KIST contributed nearly 30 percent of the value-added industrial products of the country. KIST (Institute of Science and Technology, Korea) was established in 1966 in Seoul, with the task of solving the technical problems of production urgent, Korea oriented social development based on modern technology . KIST is also one of the important factors to promote the development of science and technology, industrialization in Korea in the year 70-80.
In 2012, during a visit to South Korea, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the Korean government to support the establishment of a research institute of Vietnam modeled KIST.
